What qualifies the writer of the Oct. 19 editorial, ``Speaking out of turn,'' to declare: ``Oddly enough, there's nothing at all very threatening to the Constitution, or to the separation of church and state, about a reference to God in the Pledge of Allegiance''? The point of the trial before the Supreme Court is to determine just that. The writer seems unaware that under our Constitution, the courts have the final check in the balance of power to determine what is and isn't constitutional.
