Fed: More than $1 million for disadvantaged communities
More than $1 million has been allocated to help disadvantaged communities tackle problemssuch as child abuse, family violence, financial management and rural unemployment.
Family and Community Services Minister AMANDA VANSTONE says $275,000 will go towardsthe national child abuse prevention program, Choose with Care.
$400,000 has been earmarked for the Bendigo-based Lead On program, which has involvedover 650 rural youths and almost 150 businesses in community-based projects since it beganfour years ago.
$150,000 will go to financial management workshops in remote Indigenous communitiesin the Northern Territory.
The Centre for Community Child Health at the Royal Children's Hospital in Parkville,Victoria will receive $67,700 to run a national workshop and produce a plan for detectingchildren with developmental problems.
And the Alice Springs-based Family as Community project will receive $264,000 to helpindigenous families develop strategies against unemployment, poor health, violence, crimeand substance misuse.
