Fed: Democrats must support Greig, says Qld leader

Members of the Australian Democrats have been asked to be loyal to interim leader BRIANGRIEG if they want to rebuild the party.

Queensland president KATE KUNZELMANN says she will today attempt to calm members ata state council meeting in Brisbane.

Ms KUNZELMANN sits on the national executive which appointed the Western Australiansenator interim leader after the resignation of NATASHA STOTT DESPOJA.

She says the party has to go back to doing what it should be doing, which is creatingpolicy, creating campaigns and preparing for elections.

The nomination deadline for leadership is next Wednesday but a decision will not bemade until October the 5th.

Meanwhile, the Queensland Greens are moving to capitalise on the Democrats troublesat their state conference on the Sunshine Coast this weekend.

Greens convenor DREW HUTTON says his party is now the only progressive one representedin Federal parliament.
