Caird, John

Caird, John (1948–) Canadian-born director who first worked with the Royal Shakespeare Company in 1978. Known for irreverent interpretations which have seen Puck enter on stage reading the text of A Midsummer Night's Dream (1989), and an As You Like It (1989) in a set devised to resemble the Royal Shakespeare Theatre foyer. His other Shakespeare productions include Romeo and Juliet, Twelfth Night (1983), The Merchant of Venice (1984), and Antony and Cleopatra (1992, all Royal Shakespeare Company), and for BBC television Henry IV, adapted from Parts 1 and 2 (1995).
